SI block
An SI block is used for pain originating from the sacroiliac joint, the joint between the sacrum and the pelvis. The pain can be felt in the lower back, buttock, or thigh and is often mistaken for back problems. The aim of the treatment is to relieve inflammatory or mechanical pain by blocking nerve signals from the joint.
The treatment begins with the area being localized using imaging, usually X-ray or ultrasound. A small amount of local anesthetic is then injected, sometimes combined with cortisone to reduce inflammation.
The effect can be noticed quickly and provide both diagnostic information and pain relief. If the effect is good, the treatment can be repeated or supplemented with radiofrequency treatment for longer duration. SI block is a safe and effective method that often provides improved mobility and reduced pain in everyday life.
